Task
Cheeky Promotions Ltd. is planning to release a hard copy magazine, announcing all events and promotions in Lancaster. The magazine has to be suitable for all ages and mostly for students. The first edition will be 30 pages and is expected in January.
Marketing Society Competition
Come up with a new brand name and concept for the new Cheeky Lancaster Magazine and win a Marketing Internship at one of clubs in Lancaster during the Easter Holiday.
Further Guidance
Your main task is suggesting a magazine name. For better winning chances, use your imagination and to come up with a magazine concept – who would read it, what content would be interesting for such readers, possible articles, change the logo, where to be distributed and think of fitting suitable advertisements with content. We are excited to hear all your innovative ideas!
Prizes
Our first price is a Marketing Internship during the Easter holiday with one of the Lancaster clubs. In addition, for each creative and nonstandard idea you will get plenty of vouchers, bottles of champagne and gifts.

The time has come for the most entertaining,the most nerve cracking, the most marketing-saturated, the most die-laughing event of the year – FAMILY FORTUNES!!!
Last year it brought tears to the students and triumph for the lecturers. But we never give up, we only try harder!
This year the ‘family’ of the lecturers features P…oh,no, you will have to come and see it yourself! You can either sit quietly in the audience or rise against the big marketing minds. 4 students will compete against 4 lecturers in 4 stages. The Chartered Institute of Marketing is challenging you – prove that you are the future of marketing!
What: Compete against other teams from Lancaster University in 3 marketing categories.
Why: The best team directly goes to the national competition in Manchester at the end of February. All travelling expenses will be covered by the Marketing Society!

Welcome back to the world of marketing, after the snowy Christmas and the festive New Year’s Eve!
We know that you still can’t even think about learning and deadlines, so what about a tiny lessons-free warm-up for next term?
What we want you to do is very simple! Make a print advert that perfectly sticks to our society strapline: “It makes you wonder what else you can do!”. Use a single photograph, a drawing, a collage, you name it and just add our strapline so that it looks cool, creative and unconventional! Post your idea on our Facebook page or if you wish to stay anonymous e-mail it to marketing.soc@lancaster.ac.uk! All ideas will be uploaded in a special Facebook album. The best ad will win a prize worth of £50!
Also, invite your friends to like your ad idea, a special prize will go to the most liked one!!!

Marketing Society supports the delicious idea of LUMSA. Eat mince pies and drink mulled wine for free this Thursday from 4 till 7 in the MS Hub area!!!
In week 8 we presented the TOP event of this term!!!
‘Sell me this’ was the ultimate way to prove your marketing skills, because a brilliant marketer is the one who is able to sell ANYthing! And by anything we mean hangover, smiles, a plastic cap or even a whole planet. In the first round 5 teams had to sell a product that is mixing 4 categories of emotion. They came up with things like condom gun, shower tablet computer and energy drink with a taste of passion fruit!
In the second round 3 team had to use their selling skills to market a mop. From pole dancing to iPhone app for the mop….we saw it all!!!
To make it even harder, we chose the best people to decide who wins and who loses on our simulated market – THE LECTURERS themselves! And the hardest job was to beat their skills at the end of the game – last year at one event we, the students, were smashed by the 4 lecturers and now we want a revenge! This time a bitten apple was presented by the wining team and the lecturers and the audience had to decide who wins. Well, this time the students made their best!!!!
On top of it, the winning team grabbed a £30 prize to celebrate the victory!

You can ask all the questions you can think of in an informal session with Helen Wagstaff. She will also explain the process from your first application to the stage where you sign a contract with Centrica!
